There is hope and reason for optimism. BPD is treatable.

Therapy, often over several years, can be effective in helping individuals with BPD manage their symptoms, often when the patient reaches middle-age.

People with BPD often benefit from learning skills to manage their emotions through long-term & consistent treatment.

However, there is no evidence that an inpatient treatment program (hospitalization) is effective in recovery or suicide reduction for people with BPD.
